Prelene Neerputh is an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with eight years’ post-qualification experience spanning private practice, corporate advisory, higher education, legal publishing and compliance. With a passion for law, legal research and the pursuit of practical solutions to complex legal challenges, Prelene combines sound legal knowledge with a commercially minded and solution-oriented approach to legal practice.
Prelene obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of the Western Cape and is currently furthering her academic interests through a Master of Laws (LLM). Her commitment to legal scholarship, advocacy and the advancement of women in the legal profession was reflected in her participation in the International Association of Women Judges’ Women’s Pioneer Programme, endorsed by the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit at the University of Cape Town. Through this initiative, she received mentorship from Senior Magistrate Anthia Ramos at the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court, gaining valuable exposure to judicial proceedings, court administration and the practical application of the law.
Prelene commenced her articles of clerkship at Strauss Daly Attorneys Inc., where she gained experience in property law, banking and finance, commercial transactions, litigation and deceased estates. This experience provided a strong foundation in both contentious and non-contentious legal matters, allowing her to work alongside established legal practitioners, financial institutions and private wealth clients.
Following her admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, Prelene broadened her professional experience across various legal and corporate environments. During her tenure as a Legal Advisor and Facilitator at the University of the Western Cape, she contributed to legal compliance, disciplinary proceedings, academic development and legal training. She subsequently joined LexisNexis, undertaking specialist legal research and senior editorial responsibilities. Working collaboratively with professional support lawyers and international teams, she contributed to the development and maintenance of legal publications and research content across various areas of South African law.
Her professional journey further extended into corporate and commercial advisory through her roles at Petersen Attorneys Inc. and as In-house Counsel at Unateus (Pty) Ltd. In these positions, she advised on commercial agreements, due diligence, regulatory compliance, contractual risk and dispute resolution.
At Galbraith Rushby, in her capacity as a Legal and Compliance Practitioner, Prelene was responsible for managing the legal and compliance department. Her responsibilities included providing taxation opinions, advising on estate planning, administering deceased estates, and drafting wills and commercial agreements.
Having worked across private practice, higher education, legal publishing and corporate environments, Prelene appreciates that the law extends far beyond legislation and legal textbooks. She believes effective legal representation requires not only technical legal expertise but also an understanding of people, their businesses and the circumstances that lead them to seek legal advice. Her approach is grounded in practical problem-solving, attention to detail, continuous professional development and a commitment to delivering thoughtful, commercially aware legal solutions.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Prelene values maintaining a balanced and active lifestyle. She enjoys swimming, practising yoga and spending time at the gym. An avid reader with a keen interest in studying and lifelong learning, she is continually exploring opportunities to broaden her knowledge and perspective. She also enjoys discovering the Western Cape’s hidden gems, appreciating the region’s natural beauty, unique destinations and local experiences. Prelene also lives in an HOA.
